THE ARTIST
Yu-Ling Kung (龔玉玲) was born in Taipei, Taiwan. She majored in sociology in National Taiwan University (NTU), and graduated from Graduate Institute of Building and Planning in NTU. As a long-term member of the Taiwan animal advocacy movement, she employs sound and image to bring attention to animal suffering. Animal representation and environmental ethics are now the subjects of both her study and short film making. Moreover, she organized several projects about animal images. For example, in 2006, she set an outdoor mini-theater-in-tent, screening shorts about the issue of animal protection. In 2011, as a curator, she presented an insightful online exhibition, with an eye to how digital animal photography develops in Taiwan and how animals’ images encounter human viewers in digital era.
