ARTIST STATEMENT
The image above is taken from Bear War-den, which explore themes of violence and trauma, , and imagines how human and non-human subjects might work together to create a more compassionate world.

THE ARTIST
Vivian Demuth is a Canadian trans-disciplinary artist and writer who works summers as a fire lookout in the Rocky Mountains, where she hosts an annual Poetry on the Peaks event. She is the author of a novel, Eyes of the Forest, and a poetry collection, Breathing Nose Mountain, and her work has been included in various anthologies and journals in Canada, the U.S., Europe, and Mexico. Demuth is currently working on her second novel, entitled Bear War-den, which will include text and images in order to explore the interconnectedness and mutual influences of the human and natural worlds, particularly highlighting relationships between women and bears within the Canadian Parks system.
