Animals in performance and cinema and emotions.

Outputs: Book – ‘Wild and Dangerous Performances: Animals, Emotions, Circus’ (Palgrave Macmillan 2011). This history of twentieth-century trained big cat and elephant performers in live performance and in cinema encompasses their routines, training methods, as well as social opposition to animals incircus and post Darwinian scientific values. I am currently working hard on a book on menagerie acts. I also write scholarly articles and plays including the one-act plays: ‘Kangaroo on Par’(2010) about kangaroos reduced to living on golf courses; and ‘Deception River’ (2008) about deer hunting in NZ.
